For the past 109 years, women all over the globe have celebrated being female, and in Harrogate it was no different. The Soroptimists of the Harrogate District are one group of it's 80,000 members globally, and take part in a huge variety of projects on local, national and international scales.

The Soroptimists of the Harrogate District aim to educate, empower, and enable opportunities for women and girls, and an awards ceremony held at the Wesley Chapel did exactly that. Two young women, Amy Honeysett and Ellen Young, won the award this year, and the incredible work that they have done was celebrated.

The group is always looking for more members and meet every first and third Wednesday of the month at the White Hart Hotel in Harrogate. You can find out more about joining by clicking here.

Beth Parsons went to the event and talked to Pat Shore, Sandra Frier, Sylvia Purser, Deputy Chief Constable Lisa Winward, Amy Honeysett, Eileen Boag, and Andrea Trimmer to find out more about the Soroptimists of the Harrogate District on Stray FM's Family Show.
