New Parents Lose 4 Weeks Sleep A Year

New Parents Lose 4 Weeks Sleep A Year

New research commissioned by the BookTrust has suggested that new parents are losing as much sleep a year as many people get given as holiday allowance from work.

And the lack of sleep is no joke, here's some of the other statistics from the research:

  • New parents are twice as likely (33% v 16%) to want a night of uninterrupted sleep over a night out with their friends
  • A fifth (21%) have taken a day off work to get some more sleep
  • 1 in 20 (4%) have booked a hotel room for themselves to get a night away
  • A quarter (24%) admit to having lost their sense of humour because of lack of sleep; a third (29%) are eating poorly; and 1 in 5 (20%) admit to cancelling plans last minute because they’re just too shattered
  • 67% of non-parents get 8 hours sleep a night – just 14% of new parents do
