Otley pubs to be renamed again

Published at 7:00am 1st August 2017.

If you're out in Otley you could soon be having a pint at the Sean Bean or a G&T in the Jodie Whittaker.

A draw to pair up the town's pubs with celebrities for a renaming - ahead of next year's Yorkshire Day - is taking place tonight.

An online survey ran through June and July to select the names the public wanted the most.

People could choose from a list of celebrities under different categories including Sport, Musicians and Comedians - all of which are from Yorkshire.

The draw tonight will be at the Black Horse Hotel in the centre of Otley from 6.30pm.

Comedian Charlie Chuck (AKA Uncle Peter) will be selecting the celebrity names out for the draw tonight.

The chosen celebrities are all then going to be invited to visit Otley and have a drink in their very own pub.

Bob Brook - Secretary of the Otley Pub Club - believes Yorkshire Day is now a real celebration: "It's becoming more popular, even 10 years ago nobody really knew about Yorkshire Day, but now in Otley there are Yorkshire flags all around town.

"It's a celebration of business and industry as well as celebrities and countryside and I think everybody in Yorkshire is really proud of the day now.

"We changed all the names for the Royal Wedding and for the Tour De France we translated the pub names into French - it was so successful, so we thought we might as well have another renaming project.

"We want it to be like a real FA Cup-style draw - everyone is welcome so come along."
