ADHD: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Just one of the areas that the team at The Brain Collective deal with on a regular basis - and one of the areas they can offer some serious help with for both children and adults.

There are actually three main types of symptoms that come under the guise of ADHD, and research suggests that all three have profound physical affects on the brain. The three types are:

1. Inattentive

Inattentive ADHD is what’s usually meant when someone uses the term ADD. This means a person shows enough symptoms of inattention but isn’t hyperactive or impulsive.

2. Hyperactive/impulsive

This type occurs when a person has symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity but not inattention.

3. Combined

Combined ADHD is when a person has symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

This video, from Kings College London, gives more of an insight into how the brain may physically have been changed by one of the above types of ADHD:

The Brain Collective, based in Harrogate, spoke on Stray FM's Health and Wellbeing Show to discuss how they work with those who have the symptoms of ADHD:

And here's some feedback from a parent who's been using the Brain Collective for support with their son's ADHD:

We have been attending Neurofeedback sessions for approximately 12 months with our 12 year old son and the change in him is unbelievable. We have gone from a child who played alone, avoided eye contact, didn’t socialise, had little attention span or concentration and was struggling in school to one that has suddenly started making friends, has a wicked sense of humour and is displaying normal teenage behavior and a scary amount of independence. In addition he was on maximum dose of Ritalin for ADHD and the thought of taking him off the medication to start Neurofeedback was frightening, but he hasn’t had a tablet since!

After 10 and a half years of looking for answers, Maria and Melanie have identified the root of his problems and literally changed his life. For us, it is a long process, but it has been the best money we have ever spent, as said before, it has literally changed his life.
