The loud bangs and bright lights of bonfire night is usually exciting! But for some of us it's more frightening than fun. Pets can find noise and brightness of fireworks unnerving so we got some simple tips from the Vet Hospital on making our pets feel better.

  • Keep the radio or music on - something to distract their attention away from the noise outside.
  • Training CD's - these are effective for younger animals if used early in life and are full of strange noises to get them used to it.
  • Close the curtains - this way they can't see the flashes.
  • Maintain a safe and normal environment so they feel secure.
  • Hormonal products - these can be used in extreme circumstances and will calm animals which come as a spray, a collar or a plug in.

Also, please don't forget to check your bonfires for hedgehogs! Before they are lit they are often cosy places for them to hide so always check there aren't any hiding inside before you begin your bonfire party.

Will Smith, a proud dog owner himself, went to talk to Bob Partridge at the Vet Hospital about keeping our pets happy over the bonfire night weekend.
