There's a lot to think about in your teenage year, and school is just one of them. If you or your child is considering going to sixth form after GCSE's you're probably up to your eyeballs in prospectuses, open evenings and inspection results... but what should you really be taking into consideration?

We've been hearing from Harrogate Ladies College to get some advice for parents and students.

  • Think about what you enjoy - studying subjects you don't like is going to make school life tougher and less fun, whereas choosing subjects you love is going to make your days happier and probably your results better!
  • Consider where you're heading after sixth form - it's important to enjoy what you're studying, but if you've got a specific degree or aim after A-Levels it's vital you check your going to hit the requirements.
  • Visit and get a feel for it - nothing can quite beat stepping inside where you might be spending the next two years so make sure you visit to see how you feel.
  • Facilities - Are they up to date? Will they help you achieve what you want to? How do they compare to other sixth forms?
  • Extra-curricular activities - What can you get up to outside of lessons? Music, sport, school trips and clubs can form an integral part of your sixth form life as well as providing some great stuff for your CV

And just in case you're in any doubt whether the sixth form students at Harrogate Ladies College are able to achieve some seriously good A-Level results...
