The CQC has found the quality of care provided by Vida Grange, a care home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire ire to be Outstanding following an inspection in November 2017.

Vida Grange provides care and accommodation for up to 124 older people across eight units which are called houses. At the time of this inspection there were 72 people using the service.

CQC asks five questions when it inspects: Are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led?

Vida Grange is rated as Outstanding for being effective and caring, and Good for safe, responsive and well-led.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website.

Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the North, said: “We found the quality of care provided at Vida Grange, a care home in Harrogate to be outstanding.

“This service had a strong culture of treating people as individuals. Vida Grange worked hard to integrate this ethos into every aspect of the care home including recruitment and designing care with people and their families.

“In dementia care especially, everything about the service including the environment and the way staff communicated with people, was designed to give them a good quality of life, and reduce the risk of them feeling distressed at any point.

“We saw that staff knew people using the service well, and understood their needs. It was clear that people were well cared for and staff helped them to maintain their independence and give them a good sense of self-worth.

“All the staff at Vida Grange should be very proud of the care they are providing and I hope other providers look to their example of what outstanding care should look like.”

Some of the findings from the inspection included:

  • People were treated with high levels of respect and afforded dignity.
  • People and their relatives told inspectors they thought the care people received was of a very high standard.
  • The provider used good practice and innovation to ensure people living with dementia received an effective service.
  • People were supported to develop and maintain friendships to prevent social isolation.
  • The provider listened to feedback received including the issues raised via the complaints system and used it to continuously improve their service.
