A collection of stunning rock carvings at Newby Hall form part of the Matombo collection. 

Visitors to Newby Hall near Ripon can experience plenty to do including the miniature railway, an adventure playground and beautiful house and gardens. 

But did you know that local families who visit also get the opportunity to see an ancient rock carving technique

Originating from Zimbabwe, when done by the professionals the result is a collection of beautiful stone sculptures. For the amateur rock carvers a go with a hammer, a chisel and a handy pair of safety goggles allows visitors to see for themselves quite how difficult it would be.

Matombo sculptures are also available to buy at Newby Hall and Gardens
