Top 10 Back to School Essentials

Top 10 Back to School Essentials

Published at 3:14pm 29th August 2018.

Children across Harrogate, Craven, Wharfedale and beyond have been enjoying their summer holidays but now we're approaching the new school year!

We've put together your essential guide that you, as a parent will need to start the new school term!

School Shoes

You’ve been putting it off but your child’s feet will have grown so now’s the time to get them some new school shoes. The cost of kitting out kids for school can total £240 per child and prices of school shoes are around £40 on average, it will be expensive!

Pencil Case

Remember that feeling when you started your new school year with a shiny new pencil case? It’s the same for your children, although they’ll probably want something a little more expensive!

White Shirt

Let’s face it, they don’t normally stay this white after the first day so you might have to buy plenty to keep you going through the first term!

Check the PE Kit at the start of the school term because it’ll be the only time that it is complete. Within a few weeks there will be a missing trainer, sports top or football sock despite you rigorously naming every item!

Routine has been way out over the last six weeks so the children (and you!) might just need a new alarm call for the first day of term!

Chocolate Bars

You might have to bribe them for their first day so how about a treat after school? Ice-cream, their favourite tea or who could resist a chocolate bar?

Out of the Ark Music

Within a few weeks, primary school children will be singing catchy songs during assembly so it’s only right that we give you the heads up so you can surprise your children by singing the songs when they come home from school! (video from Out of the Ark Music).

Bear with us on this one! The Christmas cards are already making their way onto the shelves, once the autumn term begins schools will be making their preparations for the Christmas show. Be prepared to make the angel costume ahead of this year’s nativity!

Expect tears on the first day and not just from the children. If you're sending your child to school for the first time, be brave. You'll probably be more teary than they will be on their first day!

This memorable TV theme will take you back to your own school days, just watch out for the sausage!

And don't forget to make sure you've got Nick Hancock at Breakfast on for all the tunes, travel and banter you need on the school run
