Open for Autumn from 6th October 2018 the Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park are launching a range of exciting new courses.

Recently awarded 1st Place for the Yorkshire In Bloom Tourist Attraction 2018, the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park near Ripon is one of the best places to see stunning Autumn colours. 

Plus with the dramatic weather from earlier in the year, a cold Winter and a hot Summer, the scenery is set to be even more stunning than usual.

As well as the scenery, this year the team at the Himalayan Garden is proud to announce four courses which are available for people to book on. 

Garden Course and Lecture

Tuesday 9th October 2018

Senior Gardener – Phil Cormie will start with a short lecture and slide show on the history and development of the Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park. This will be followed by a friendly and entertaining course, which will focus on the seasonal jobs in the garden at this time of year, and the planting of a border to create interest in the autumn and winter months.

Needle Felted Robin or Blue Tit Work Shop

Androulla Jefferies is an experienced textile artist and craft tutor, who loves to create bespoke items. On this course she will teach you the skills of needle felting, showing you how to create and join different shapes in the form of either a Robin or Blue Tit , how to felt around wire and which fleece to choose, resulting in the creation of a stunning garden bird. A perfect Christmas decoration or present. This workshop is ideal for beginners and those with some experience.

Nature Impressed Porcelain Lantern Workshop

Join local Ceramic Artist Anna Whitehouse on an observational day of the Himalayan Gardens through clay. The first part of the session will be a group walk to enjoy the gardens. Exploring the Autumnal setting whilst collecting leaves, seed pods and other natural material to use in the workshop. Armed with your personal collection of natural treasures, experiment with impressing techniques in combination with the wonderful translucency of porcelain to create delicate, slab-built tealight holders and window hangers. Perfect for capturing the beauty of Autumn and enjoying as the nights creep in. At the end of the workshop Anna will take all the pieces back to her studio to fire in her kiln. Work can be collected from her studio in Harrogate or at the Himalayan Gardens.

Modern Calligraphy Workshop

Learn how to write beautifully using ink and nib on this modern calligraphy course with Sophie Roberts. Suitable for complete beginners this class will teach you everything you need to know starting right at the basics. All attendees will be provided with a Calligraphy Starter Kit, including handouts, paper, pen and ink to use and take home, providing everything you need to start your calligraphy journey!
