After weeks of uncertainty and following extensive refurbishments over the summer, Ilkley's indoor swimming pool will re-open next month.

Work on the roof at the pool, located on Denton Road, began in July and was estimated to take up to 10 weeks to complete. However Bradford Council says once contractors started work on site by lifting the roof, only then did they become aware of the extent of damage and the work that was required.

At the time, swimmers raised concerns about the closure.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places said:

"The Swimming Pool has been operating as it is for 44 years so it was crucial these works were carried out and to a standard that is safe for those visiting. It is a popular leisure facility and we are pleased that it will soon re-open for the public to enjoy once again"

Contractors have carried out repairs, including replacing the pool's roof. Bradford Council says the pool is expected to open in the first week of December.
