Carling Jones Estate Agents have teamed up with Craven District Council in offering a Shared Ownership scheme to help first-time buyers get on the property ladder.

With recent forecasts suggesting house prices are on the rise, it's harder than ever for those who want to make their first move in the property market. But Craven District Council have been developing their own affordable housing, and have teamed up with Carling Jones in Skipton to offer them on a Shared Ownership basis to help those looking for their first house.

The scheme effectively allows buyers to buy a share in a home, making it affordable to those who may not have the means to purchase 100% of the property. Carling Jones Estate Agents started working with Craven District Council in May 2017 and are currently the only Estate Agents offering this Help to Buy scheme.

The Shared Ownership Scheme

Shared Ownership is an affordable home ownership scheme that could make it easier for you to get on the property ladder. Aimed at first-time buyers, purchasers can buy a share in a home - initially between 25% and 75% - and make monthly mortgage payments. This involves taking a smaller mortgage and requires a smaller deposit, something that will be of interest to those looking to make that first step on the property ladder.

Craven District Council will own the rest of the property and buyers will pay rent, which is usually below market rent prices.
