What food items do most Brits take on holiday?

A study has shown that more than half of Yorkshire holidaymakers take 'typically British' food on holiday with them, with tea and coffee being the most popular items making it into suitcases.

Monday 7th January is historically the busiest day of the year for booking holidays in the UK, but it's not just clothes that we're taking through Customs. A recent poll has shown that tea bags  (37%) are the most common 'British staple' that we pack, followed by coffee (23%), biscuits (16%), cereal (9%) and baked beans (7%).

The results also show that two in five people take these items out of fear that they won't find them abroad, whilst 34% of holidaymakers believe some products overseas just don't taste the same.

Food and Drink aren't the only things we're taking with us either... More than one in five of us have admitted to taking slippers abroad, with 25-34 year olds proving the most common age group! One in 20 will bring their own toilet roll, one in 10 bring their own pillows and 7% of people choose to pack a family photo.

Declaring items abroad

It's not just the extra baggage allowance people should be considering when taking their favourite brand of baked beans on holiday. Some countries have strict laws on declaring items for personal use when passing through Customs, and those who fail to do so may incur hefty fines.

Two thirds of people don't know or cannot cite a country where they might break the law if they failed to declare tea at Customs. Australia, for example, demands that tea be declared and could fine as much as £10,000 for not doing so. To make matters worse, the tea is also confiscated!
