Top tips for brides shopping for their wedding dress

Joana Staponiene, who has been creating wedding dresses for over 20 years, has revealed some of her best advice for brides-to-be.

  • Arrive with an open mind. Already know what you want? Joana estimates that around 90% of brides who arrive with a specific idea on what they want end up changing their mind.
  • Try a range of styles. Even if you think you won't suit or want a certain type of dress it's always worth trying a wide variety of shapes, fabrics and designs on. This help eliminate things don't want or highlight what you do. You don't get to try wedding dresses on very often so make the most of it! And you never know, it might just surprise you.
  • Be prepared to cry if you find THE ONE. It can be an emotional moment when you discover your wedding dress and there's a high chance you'll shed a tear or two. And this includes those who you are shopping with. Waterproof mascara might be necessary. Joana will supply the tissues.
  • Wear nude underwear. In fact, if you have them already, take a strapless or backless bra too for trying dresses on. Also be prepared to go topless if you're looking for low or sheer back.
  • Arrive feeling good. If that means having your hair or make up done beforehand go for it. You need to feel special for the occasion. Despite it not being the actual wedding day, you'll be spending a lot of time looking in the mirror. Don't worry about getting makeup on the dresses, the team helping you will look after that.
