People living with terminal illness in Harrogate are reinforcing the message that hospices are not sad places.

As part of Hospice Care Week, patients at Saint Michael's Hospice have told Stray FM how the charity actually helps them feel happier.

They describe the care spaces as warm, friendly, relaxed, peaceful, positive, welcoming and comfortable.

Staff are described as professional, kind, understanding, caring and supportive - valuing and respecting every person they meet.

Jennifer Smith, who has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart damage, is currently receiving day therapy:

  Patient Jimmy Leworthy already had connections with Saint Michael's before going there for day therapy.
