Otley's standalone Argos store is set to close in March as it makes its way into the town's Sainsbury's.

The supermarket chain bought the retail group back in 2016.

Since then, the decision to move has been a regular occurrence across the UK.

Councillor Ray Georgeson explains: "We're all used now to the click and collect style of shopping and internet shopping, as well as using our high streets.

"It's important that we look after our high streets and shopping centres as best we can, but they're changing and evolving in all towns and cities and this is typical of that kind of trend.

"Whilst there may well be less space available in the Sainsbury's for stock as you might have had in an Argos, people are ordering things online and collecting them, so I suspect that's going to be less of an issue.

"Argos continues to be a popular part of Otley."

It's not yet known what will replace the facility just yet, but there are rumours that Pizza Express have been looking for space in the town for some time now.

Councillor Ray Georgeson commented on the rumours: "Everybody likes a good rumour and there's been a rumour for some time now that Pizza Express were looking for space in Otley but it hasn't happened yet."
