Ever wondered what happens in the dark, candlelit gloom of a rhubarb forcing shed? Class One Direct invite you to step inside...

Jonathan Westwood is one of only 12 rhubarb growers left inside the famous rhubarb triangle situated between Wakefield, Bradford and Leeds. During the second world war when it was most popular there were around 200 rhubarb growers in the area, but now the family farm of which Jonathan Westwood is part of grows a whopping 50% of the areas crop.

Rhubarb would normally be ready for consumption early Spring time, but January is when forced rhubarb becomes popular. It's more tender than outdoor rhubarb, and is grown in the dark and at specific temperatures. Without daylight it grows tall to about 2ft in places, and the leaves are smaller and less green.
