Sugar is often labelled as the devil food of the food world, with most of us knowing that we should reduce our intake, but what actually happens when you go on a sugar detox?

Local fitness and physiotherapy centre LEAR Fitness have recently hosted a sugar detox. Joined by 30 residents from surrounding areas, the nutritional challenge gave people the opportunity to cut out some of the most processed and sugary foods from their diet with the help and support of not only a range of professionals but also the others members taking part.

Less about weight loss and more about long term health benefits, decreasing the amount of sugar we put into our bodies is a hot topic in the health and food industries. Chocolate and wine were amongst the foods that were predicted to be the toughest products to cut out, but with rewards of high energy levels and lack of '3pm energy slumps' the benefits soon outweighed the sugary treats.

See what one member of the LEAR Fitness team had to say part way in...

Beth Parsons from Stray FM's Health and Wellbeing Show went to LEAR Fitness in Harrogate to talk to Ray from the team and heard from Ripon resident Julie who has been taking part.
