Carnival comes to Pateley for second Nidderdale Food and Drink Festival

There'll be a carnival atmosphere in Pateley Bridge this weekend as the town hosts its second Nidderdale Food and Drink Festival.

On Saturday businesses will be offering samples of their produce in the Memorial Hall. Cheeses, meat, bread, pies, chocolate will be on offer, as well as local drinks including beer and gin. Throughout the day there will also be talks and displays of food being prepared.

The event will have a carnival feel with Caribbean food on offer, as well as a steel band playing.

There'll also be a wellbeing element to this year's festival.

Keith Tordoff MBE, Chairman of Nidderdale Chamber of Trade said:

"It's a great opportunity to showcase the best Nidderdale that has to offer, not just in food and drink but the service, skill and knowledge people provide.

"The wellbeing side is to sow that historically it's always been a place renowned for cleaner air, fresh water and a healthy place to live. So it's to say as well as fantastic food and produce on offer, we're telling people they can have treatments, there's herbalists, massages, lots of things taking place.

"I think it's just a natural fit. We've got hotels hat 100 years ago were spa hotels."

The wellbeing part of the festival will be held in St. Cuthbert's School hall.

The free event is open from 9am and will be officially opened by Michelin star chef Frances Atkins from the Yorke Arms Hotel at 10am.

On Saturday night in the Memorial Hall there is a ticketed Asian meal with entertainment provided by a professional Indian musician Vijay Venkat.
