When it comes to losing weight, nutrition can be just as important as exercising, but when and how often you have your meals can also have a huge impact. 

David Lloyd Club Harrogate have been chatting about the importance of nutrition and how the selection of smoothies and protein shakes in their Club Room can help fuel your exercise routine.

They recommend avoiding foods high in carbohydrates too soon before working out, as it is likely to be counter-productive and leave you feeling heavier and low on energy.

But stocking up on protein and a small amount of carbohydrates in the hours before exercising can keep you feeling light and provide you with the energy you'll need.

The protein found in nuts is a perfect snack for those who eat 'little and often,' whilst the natural sugar in fruit can boost your energy before you work out

The Clubroom menu features a number of healthy snacks that can help you replenish your energy and aid recovery after your workout, or help you fuel up beforehand. 

Protein shakes, such as the popular Fruit and Nut with topped banana shake at David Lloyd, can be made with soya, almond or coconut milk.

The drinks can also be made with dairy-free protein powder to cater for those who are dairy intolerant and are aimed at supplementing your protein intake, which is crucial for rebuilding muscles.

David Lloyd Club also offer a variety of smoothies, with and without protein, which contain fruit that can provide your body with natural sugars that are great for boosting energy levels.
