Why is gin so popular?

Gin has been popular for so long now, but where did all the hype come from?

Changes to laws in 2009 meant distilleries under 1,800 litre capacity would be granted a license, meaning smaller distilleries began cropping up around the country.

With more than 500 varieties in this country alone, the ageless spirit has continued to grow in popularity for the better part of a decade.

Last year there were 419 licensed distilleries in the UK, almost quadrupling the figures from 2009.
