Harrogate District Hospital's phone and computer systems are back up and running after technical problems.

Bosses say there was "significant" disruption and they have apologised for the inconvenience caused to patients.

It meant that some surgery had to be postponed.

Robert Harrison, Chief Operating Officer at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, said: "This disruption affected our main phone system, our e-mail system and our clinical systems, which has impacted on the smooth running of the hospital.

"We have been working hard all day to solve this issue and have ensured patient safety wasn't compromised throughout.

"Thank you to patients and their relatives, and everyone else who has been trying to get through to us today, for their patience and understanding.

"To protect the safety of patients, we unfortunately had to postpone six elective operations. We are in direct communication with these patients to rearrange their operations for as soon as possible.

"All systems are now back to normal."
