A new appeal to help Harrogate's poorly children has been given a huge boost.

The Rainbow Fund was launched to raise money for a transport incubator and new equipment in the children's outpatients unit at Harrogate District Hospital, as well as a Senior Volunteer Training Officer for the charity Bliss.

After hearing about the fundraising campaign on Stray FM, the children's charity Variety is going to donate £31,000 to cover the entire cost of the incubator.

It's also pledged to raise money for the outpatients unit.

Alex Vere, founder of The Rainbow Fund, said: "Totally overwhelmed. We have such big targets to raise and we have a so much better chance to raise the money for these three most worthy of causes. We won't have to let anyone down, because we know now that we will be able to make those targets in 2016.

"With your help, we can make Harrogate children's department better and we can help parents of the future. Somebody said to me 'from acorns grow oak trees' and that's what The Rainbow Fund is about - making something for the future to support Harrogate's children."
