More than £17,500 has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support at a charity event in Harrogate.

Some of the proceeds from the second Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre Spring Ball will help fund the provision of complementary therapies.

They relieve some side effects of cancer treatment and help with certain physical conditions and emotional issues.

The complementary therapy service has been increased to offer treatment four days a week, which means that more people can benefit from it and there are reduced waiting times.

However, the service relies on voluntary donations and around £50,000 must be raised each year to keep it going.

The Spring Ball included an auction, silent auction and a raffle, with the highlight being a hamper personally donated by Prince Charles.

Sarah Grant, Chair of the Spring Ball Committee, said: "On behalf of the committee, I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported this year's Spring Ball.

"We have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown to this event, through the sponsorship, prize donations and everyone who bought a ticket and attended on the night.

"The feedback we have received has been overwhelming since Saturday, and demand is already high for next year's Spring Ball which will be held on Saturday 20 May 2017!"
