When someone you love is affected by dementia it can be a very difficult thing to come to terms with, as the person you know and love changes. We sent Stray FM's Christopher Dean to Vida Hall in Starbeck, to see some of the techniques they use to care for those with dementia.

I'd not been in to a dementia care facility before.  I half expected the only noises to be a ticking clock and the occasional groan echoing down a gloomy looking corridor.

I was wrong.  Very.

Vida Healthcare pride themselves on their relaxed and warm atmosphere, and this is no more evident than on a Tuesday afternoon in Vida Hall, Starbeck when the chairs are pushed back and the communal lounge becomes a dance floor for patients, staff, friends and family.

But it's not just good fun - music can assist massively in the care and treatment of dementia.
