Dementia: incurable, permanent, heartbreaking.

Those three things are true.

But recent studies have actually shown that it's possible to slow it down, improve brain functionality to minimise the effects, and to reduce the risks in early years. The Brain Collective in Harrogate have been investigating the study in question done in America to discover that 84% of the patients who took part in the 12 week course experienced significant improvements in their brain function.

But it's not the only one of it's kind, and improving cognitive functionality is exactly what The Brain Collective is all about.

With an aging population upon us, the number of people over the age of 85 will rise from 1.26 million in 2012 to 2.6 million by 2032 (that's more than doubling) so it's understandable we should be concerned about the rising number of people who will be affected by some form of dementia.

Beth Parsons talked to Maria, Melanie and Mike from The Brain Collective on Stray FM's Health and Wellbeing Show, and you can hear this below.
