Staying up to date with the latest technological advances is vital if you're in a rapidly progressing industry. And it's particularly important in the medical field.

The Brain Collective in Harrogate helps children and adults with anxiety, ADHD, autism, depression, dementia, epilepsy, insomnia, Parkinson's... the list goes on. And a recent development in something called the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) developed by Dr Stephen Porges at Integrated Listening System (ILS)is changing the lives of people who have struggled to get help elsewhere.

The system works using a pair of headphones and music which is is digitally altered to be the exact same frequency as the human voice. It is typically a five day intervention and based on Dr. Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, the program is derived from nearly four decades of research on the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and social-emotional processes. Following successful completion of the intervention, individuals will be better able to focus in school, therapy, and everyday life and experience a calmed emotional and physiological state.

Whilst there is a huge amount of ages and issues that the Safe and Sound Protocol can be used for, here are couple videos of Sophie. Sophie is 6 and is on the Autism spectrum. As you can see in the before and after videos below, the changes in her anxiety, fear, confidence and demeanor has changed drastically.

Before SSP...

After SSP...

The Brain Collective offers the Safe and Sound Protocol as a treatment along with a huge range of others, and the first step is always to get in touch with Maria, Melanie and Paula to talk things though. You can do that here.

Or you can listen to what they had to say when Beth Parsons from Stray FM's health and well being show went to find out more below.

More health and well being stories from Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale.
