Every single year, one third of over 65's will fall over, and this rises to half of all people over the age of 80. Falling can not only cause severe physical harm, but can destroy confidence, increase isolation and reduce independence. Every year in England, more than 223,000 people over 60 suffer a gracture due to a fall.. and what's really scary is 10% of people who suffer a hip fracture will die within a month of the fracture.

But there are ways you can reduce the risk.

Home Instead help people in Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk with home care and they've been helping with some advice. If you know someone who may be at risk, it's well worth going through some of the points below with them.

  1. Regular exercise
  2. Check your sight and hearing
  3. Ask about medicines - some can make affect balance or make your feel faint
  4. Visit your GP - they may be able to explain more about falls
  5. Keep your vitamin D consumption up
  6. And also your calcium
  7. Check your home for hazards
  8. Look after your feet with good shoes and slippers
