How do you feel about going to the dentist?

Dental anxiety: Fear related to seeking or receiving dental care.

Obviously fears can range from a mild apprehension which could be described as just 'something you'd rather not do', to total avoidance of appointments and severe anxiety which will inevitably end in very poor oral health.

Dentist Donald Sloss estimates that 60 - 80% of people experience mild anxiety, 10% have a fairly severe fear, with the top few percent having dental fear so strong that it hugely affects their life, some even contemplating suicide over a visit to the dentist.

But Donald and the team at Dental Excellence Harewood have a passion for making people feel comfortable about dental treatment. And sometimes it's much simpler than you might imagine. They are holding a special evening on Wednesday 22nd November 2017 at 6pm to help people overcome those feelings. It's totally free to attend and will allow people to discuss their anxiety, hear how it can be overcome and meet other people who feel exactly the same.

You can register to attend here.

One person in question was Julie Swift who became a patient at Dental Excellence Harewood after years of dental anxiety.

Beth Parsons went to meet dental expert Donald Sloss at Dental Excellence Harewood on Stray FM's Health and Wellbeing Show.
