The last thing you want at Christmas is to become unwell. And whilst we can never guarantee you won't get struck down by a cough or cold, these helpful hints from O'Connor Chiropractic in Ilkley and Harrogate will help.

For many years I suffered with debilitating headaches, migraines and pain from my neck and shoulders. Taking painkillers was my only relief, until my husband who was already having treatment for his back and legs with Jason said I should make an appointment to see him myself.

At my initial consultation with Jason and with help of the x-rays he was able to explain what a chiropractor is and what help he could provide. He recommended a course of treatment to adjust my neck.

“Since I started seeing Jason I’ve had two beautiful babies 19 months apart, so i’ve had my hands full.

I originally went to see Jason because a friend highly recommended him, I was suffering with knee pain (I was a long distance runner at the time) so I went along after a lot of pressure from my friend who convinced me it was not my knee but my spine.

On my first visit, I had to fill in a load of health and life style questions, which I just assumed were a standard sort of questions most of which would be ignored. However, after doing my examinations, Jason was able to explain not only why I was suffering with my knees but also why I had been suffering with horrendous migraines since a very early age, and possibly why I had had two miscarriages. I started seeing him twice a week and 8 weeks later we were pregnant with Thomas. I have also not had a single migraine since I started treatment with him and my knee pain has subsided. After the first week... I began to feel better

So how can you avoid getting unwell this Christmas?

  1. You are what you eat. Did you know, the calories in 1 mice pie equals a 5 mile run? And a pint of beer equals the calories in a Big Mac? Does that make you think differently about that one last one?
  2. Get more sleep! It's party season and you're stressed, both of which will less good quality sleep. 
  3. You're lacking Vitamin D. Less sunlight hours in the day, you're inside more, and you actually  absorb very little through your face and hands. You can take supplements though. 
  4. Medicine could be making you worse. When your body temperature goes up it's trying to kill the bad bacteria, so by taking medicine that lowers your temperature again it could actually be doing more harm than good. 
  5. Keep active. Even though it's Christmas time, you still need some exercise. Even a stroll outdoors can do lots of good. 
  6. Drink more water. Hydration is just as important in December as the rest of your year. 
  7. Pro-biotics will boost your immune system. But don't be fooled by those yogurt drinks... very little of the right bacteria in those.
