Harrogate hospice urges people to write their will

Harrogate hospice urges people to write their will

Published at 4:25pm 22nd March 2018. (Updated at 1:00pm 10th April 2018)

This April, Saint Michael’s Make a Will Month initiative once again sees local solicitors waiving their typical fees for the creation of a will in return for a donation to support  the hospice.

Over a third of people in the UK don't have a will. Yet through services that Saint Michaels Hospice offers including the Just B Bereavement service, it's very clear that dying without a will can lead to very distressing and complex situations.

How does Saint Michael's Make a Will month work?

Saint Michael’s has teamed up with local solicitors; LCF Barber Titley, Hutchinson & Buchanan, Grahame Stowe Bateson, Greenwoods, Bywaters Topham Phillips, Stowe Family Law, Fitzgerald-Harts as well as Winston Solicitors and McClure Solicitors in Leeds, who will each offer their will writing services free of charge.

In exchange, those involved are encouraged to make a donation to Saint Michael's hospice who continue to provide high-quality hospice care and bereavement support to local people living across the Harrogate district.

Chief Executive of Saint Michael’s, Tony Collins, said:

“We know around one third of people in the UK have not yet made a will, and for many, making a will may seem daunting.

“However, having a will professionally made with a solicitor is an important way of ensuring that the people and things you care about are looked after.

“That’s why this National Conversation Week we are keen to give local people the opportunity to make their will as part of an initiative which is simple, straightforward and offers peace of mind.

“What’s more, with one in two people touched by hospice care, you’ll gain the rewarding knowledge that your Make a Will Month donation has made a real difference to someone right here in our community.

“One in five of our patients are cared for thanks to a gift left in someone’s will.

There is no expectation to leave a gift in your will when you take part in Saint Michael’s Make a Will Month, but if you do wish to remember your local hospice in this way, a gift of any size will help the charity to be there for future generations.”
