Parkinson's UK Promoted by
Parkinson's UK

Local resident Leanne Owen is raising awareness of Parkinson's by cycling 977 miles around the UK. YOU can help, but with a lot less mileage!

Parkinson's Awareness Day on Wednesday 11th April 2018 will see many people learn something they didn't know before about the illness, how best to support those living with it, and will raise funds into research which will hopefully find a cure one day.

The launch of this years Pedal or Walk For Parkinson's event in Harrogate which will take place at Ripley will once again see many local people sign up to either a walk or a bike ride all raising money for Parkinson's UK.

But one local lady has gone one step further...

Leanne Owen, 49, begins K977 in June 2018

Following her first successful 477 mile bike ride two years ago which also raised money for Parkinson's UK, Leanne is now planning her next challenge.

This time though, there are more miles involved. 977 of them to be precise, covering all four countries in the United Kingdom.

After being diagnosed with Parkinson's at only 42 in 2011, Leanne strives to do everything she can to not only raise funds for research, but also to spread awareness and help others with the disease.

Despite struggling with movement and co-ordination due to her Parkinson's, Leanne Owen's K977 11 day challenge will begin on Thursday 28th June 2018

Leanne has even received support from celebrity Zoe Ball ahead of the challenge!

But you don't have to cycling 977 miles to make a difference.

Pedal or Walk for Parkinson's 2018

Pedal a 20 mile blast, a 40 mile blaze or a 60 mile burn if you're a biker, OR walk 1.5 miles, 3 miles or 11 miles through the beautiful North Yorkshire country side on 22nd July 2018 and help raise money for Parkinson's UK.

The event which will begin at Ripley Castle on 22nd July is back again after successful previous years and this time it's set to be bigger and better than ever!

Make 2018 your year, get a group together or come solo, and help raise funds to find a cure for Parkinson's.
