Harrogate family highlight rare lung condition

A Harrogate woman is raising awareness after her mum was diagnosed with a rare lung condition.

Chelsea Ashman's mum has lymphangioleimyometosis, or LAM. The condition almost exclusively affects women and causes cysts to develop in the lung. LAM can also cause problems in the kidneys and lymph nodes.

Chelsea has organised a Family Fun Day on 19th August at Bilton Cricket Club to raise money and awareness.

She says there's no cure or treatment, so wants to raise as much awareness as possible.

Chelsea says the condition has had a huge impact on her mum. She told Stray FM:

"She's tired most of the time and she's got to take things very, very slow.

"She used to be a very energetic person, go on long walks and do everything for herself.

"Now her independence has been taken away from her."
