Smokers in Yorkshire are encouraged to join Stoptober

Smokers in Yorkshire are being encouraged to quit smoking by joining in with Stoptober 2018. 

If you can give up for 28 days, you're five times more likely to quit completely, according to Yorkshire Cancer Research. 

And during the month of October, those who smoke in Yorkshire are being reminded of the support available and the health, financial and social benefits that come with giving up for good. 

Smoking is responsible for 16 different types of cancer including 7 in 10 lung cancers. 

There are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke including carbon monoxide, which is particularly dangerous.

What happens when you quit smoking?

As well as more spare cash (a 20 pack of cigarettes now costs about £12) and improved health and wellbeing for those around you, here is what happens after you quit...

  • Just 20 minutes after you quit, your body will begin to heal the harm caused by smoking over many years.
  • Within 24 hours your carbon monoxide levels will return to normal.
  • Quitting before the age of 40 reduces the risk of dying from smoking related disease by 90%.

Is vaping better for your health than smoking?

Simply put, yes.

As Yorkshire Cancer Research explain, e-cigarettes and vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking cigarettes.
