It may be later than usual, but good things come to those who wait... Pancake Day is almost upon us and we've got 7 top tips to making the perfect pancake!

1) Actually follow a recipe

It may seem like a no-brainer, but it's surprisingly easy to get the mixture wrong when making the perfect pancake. The kitchen is no place for an ego, so stick to your recipe and you won't go far wrong.

2) Use the right pan

The right non-stick pan is crucial to making the perfect pancake. A good pan will do the work for you, but the wrong one could result in a sticky mess and may not last from one year to the next.

Investing in the right non-stick pan could be the difference between pancake heaven or pancake hell

3) Keep it fresh

You might feel the need to make your pancake batter the night before for ease on the big day, but this is a big no-no. Use fresh eggs, flour and milk to make your batter and you'll reap the golden fluffy benefits.

4) Find your filling

This is where the pancake preparation process can get a bit contentious. Whether you're a fan of the simplicity of lemon and sugar, or if you're a bit more adventurous and want some chocolate and fruit in there, there's no wrong answers!

5) Roll, roll, roll

When you're happy with your golden, fluffy masterpiece, get rolling! No pancake should be served flat... Add your chosen toppings and roll into a sausage for maximum enjoyment.

6) Be ambitious

There's a reason all those American diners don't stop at one pancake... Stack them to your hearts desire! Be ambitious with your pancake making, for Pancake Day comes but once a year.

7) Do not fear flipping failure

The chances are you will have at least one pancake on your ceiling or in a pile on your kitchen floor. But fear not, it's all part of the fun! Don't let flipping failure put you off, the perfect pancake needs heat on both sides and the flip is the only way.

Where did pancake day come from?

It's one of the most popular days of the year for adults and children alike, but where did Pancake Day come from?

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is traditionally the feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

Lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter) was traditionally a time of fasting and Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before fasting, with pancakes being the perfect way to use up all those ingredients!
