Arriving in Harrogate 22nd - 25th November 2018, The Knitting and Stitching Show returns for another year showcasing the potential health benefits of arts and crafts.

6 in 10 Yorkshire crafters say knitting and stitching relieves stress and 1 in 4 says the hobby has helped them deal with anxiety and depression, according to new figures released by the Knitting and Stitching show.

The survey of nearly 1,400 knitters, stitchers, weavers and embroiders in Yorkshire has encouraged the show, which visits the town of Harrogate annually, to increase focus on the health and well being benefits of the hobby.

The trend of knitting the UK

Long gone are the days when it was only grandmothers over 75 sat in rocking chairs who enjoyed a spot of knitting. An increasing number of people in their twenties, thirties and forties now spend time knitting, sewing and crocheting, which has caused the industry to see a boom in popularity over the past decade.

The increase in demand echoes a similar movement away from technology towards activities and hobbies that don't involve screens. Giving the brain time to switch off, calm down and focus on something new is an incredible important aspect of taking care of mental wellbeing. Areas dedicated to this will be open to the public at the show this year.

Specific works of art at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate this year, will also be focusing on health topics including dementia and eating disorders which you can read more about below.
