Rossett Adult Learning is set to introduce their 'Contemporary Crochet' course next month, giving learners the know-how to create their own personalised blanket.

  • Rossett Adult Learning's 'Contemporary Crochet' course is set to start on Thursday 19th September and runs for 10 weeks.
  • Students will learn how to crochet and will eventually stitch their own cosy throw in time for Winter.
  • Course tutor Lucy Collyher has been speaking to Stray FM about her intentions for the classes and what learners can expect.

Rossett Adult Learning's Contemporary Crochet course is all set to kick off in just a couple of weeks, with 10 weekly classes designed to give learners the know-how and skills to produce their very own throw!

Aimed at learners of all abilities, including complete beginners who may have never attempted crochet, the course looks at stitches and joining techniques, building a small blanket block by block and learning along the way.

Inspired by styles from the 1960's and 70's, course tutor Lucy is keen to bring crochet into the 21st century and explains how it tends to differ from knitting:

"Crochet uses wool (or yarn) just like knitting, but using a hook instead of two sticks. You can create lots of different shapes, it's very quick and easy and it's very therapeutic.

"You could make things for your house, or yourself to wear or children's clothes - anything you can think of."

Course tutor Lucy is keen to take inspiration from the 1960's and 70's to allow her students to design their own unique blanket.

Starting with the basics, the course will then progress each week and gradually introduce new stitching styles.

"We're going to look at different stitches, so don't worry if you don't know any crochet. If you do have a knowledge of basic stitches then that's even better but it really doesn't matter, you will build on it week by week.

"It's very much going to be your throw at the end of it."

To book onto this course or any others available at Rossett Adult Learning, find them online, or give them a call on 01423 563768.
