Keen to share his experiences with those at the Wildlife and Safari Travel Show, Patrick gave us a glimpse of one memorable encounter with a sperm whale when filming for Sky programme 'Big Beasts':

"We really wanted to get up close and I was literally swimming next to this sperm whale - about two metres away... I thought I just can't keep up with her, so I slowed down, and she slowed down to match my speed!

"I had goosebumps all over my skin! I looked directly in her eyes and knew it was a moment I'd remember forever. There was a connection and she knew we were swimming together. It was mind-blowing."

Patrick also has a BBC World Service podcast called ‘30 Animals That Made Us Smarter’ that listeners can subscribe to, with each episode filled with lots of cool facts and stories around biomimicry and what we can learn from nature!
