A Harrogate woman has told how, after suffering with constant headaches, she was able to get her life back thanks to one local Chiropractic clinic.

  • A woman from Harrogate was suffering with constant headaches and was over-reliant on painkillers.
  • Helen's neck had lost it's natural curve over time.
  • She explains how O'Connor Chiropractic helped find the root cause of her headaches.

Headaches are a natural occurrence, but when they become a regular thing, it could be time to seek help.

Helen from Harrogate told Stray FM how a constant headache and reliance on painkillers was affecting her life:

"Over the last few years I'd been waking up with headaches every single morning.

"I was the paracetamol queen and I just thought that was the way life would be for me."

Despite the negative impact they were having on her mood and her daily life, Helen put the headaches down to her age, being 50 at the time.

But after deciding enough was enough, she visited O'Connor Chiropractic in Harrogate, where Dr Jason aimed to find the root cause of the issue:

"The first thing we noticed with Helen straight away was her posture. People don't realise how significant posture is, not just for the cause of headaches, but their overall health - including life expectancy.

"Her work as an accountant had gradually caused her neck to come out of position and the drugs were basically numbing it while the problem was still going on."

O'Connor Chiropractic - headaches from neck pain
Dr Jason from O'Connor Chiropractic explains how cervicogenics (neck issues) can cause headaches.

X-rays revealed the root cause of Helen's problem in that she had lost the natural 'C curve' in her neck, and the nerves in her spinal cord were under more strain.

Because her problems had built up over a number of years, Dr Jason explained there was no 'quick-fix' to the issue with her posture:

"It took a couple of months of intensive adjustments... It's good to see Helen's got back to going to gym classes and circuit training because her body can now cope with that stress."

"Headaches are the body's way of saying stop - something is not right, and covering that up with drugs is not really helping the person but allowing their body to get sicker and sicker."

How can I minimise headaches?

"I'd say the number one cause of headaches is cervicogenic, which means they come from the neck. “The reason why that is is because there's such a high concentration of nerves in the neck, and poor posture puts a lot of strain on those."
