Pateley Bridge among best places to live

Pateley Bridge among best places to live

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 6:21am 10th March 2017. (Updated at 6:30pm 10th March 2017)

Pateley Bridge has been named as one of the Best Places to Live in Britain by The Sunday Times.

The town is one of only eight communities in Yorkshire which are featured in Part 1 of the guide which is being published this weekend.

The supplements assess factors, from jobs, exam results and broadband speed to culture, community spirit and local shops.

The paper says the methodology relies on hard data and robust statistics on crime and education, but also on expert knowledge from The Sunday Times judging panel.

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live in Yorkshire:

  • Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire
  • Helmsley, North Yorkshire
  • Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire
  • Horsforth, Leeds
  • Malton, North Yorkshire
  • Richmond, North Yorkshire
  • Saltburn, North Yorkshire
  • Fulwood, Sheffield

It's the latest recognition for Pateley Bridge, which won the village category in the prestigious Great British High Street Awards just three months ago.

Keith Tordoff, Chairman of the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade, said: "The people are so in love with Pateley Bridge and the place, that it makes them passionate.

"We've got a fantastic High Street for people to be able to shop on, beautiful countryside, it's just a fantastic place, and no need to go anywhere else if you live in Pateley Bridge."

Sunday Times Home Editor Helen Davies added: "This is the fifth year we have compiled the list, and this year's is even bigger and better - the guide is more personal, more detailed and more comprehensive than ever before.

"The list weighs up everything from considering the likely impact of the local plan, to whether the post office is still open, the range of housing, and the quality of the coffee.

"Numbers on a spreadsheet can only tell us so much, so we carefully balance statistics with our writers' decades of knowledge and expertise to create the definitive list of the best places to live in the UK."

Readers of The Sunday Times are being encouraged to join in the conversation online by sharing their favourite places and why they love them by using the hashtag #stbestplaces.
