Homes evacuated after large fire in Ingleton

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 9:22am 11th March 2017. (Updated at 9:36am 11th March 2017)

Dozens of people have been evacuated from their homes after a large fire at an MOT test centre on Ingleton Industrial Estate.

It broke out at around 6.30pm on Friday and emergency services decided to evacuate properties within a 200-metre radius because of hazardous materials including gas bottles on the site.

The A65 was closed in both directions whilst fire crews tackled the blaze.

Residents outside of the evacuation zone were asked to stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed until further notice.

No-one was injured and people who were taken to the local community centre were allowed to return home at around 11.30pm, once the fire was under control.

Firefighters left the scene at 2.30am, but are due to return for further examinations.

At this stage, the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Police have thanked residents and businesses for their co-operation and support during the incident.
