Harrogate cop to run London Marathon

Paul cording

7:01am 21st April 2017

A Harrogate officer is hitting the streets of the capital this weekend.

Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording will be one of thousands of runners taking part in the London Marathon. Paul is fundraising for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a charity which needs £12,000 per day to run both of its helicopters.

Paul said: "Traffic cops and running don't normally go together, it's normally coffee and donuts! I have in the past done a couple of long distance races, but that was when I was a bit younger. It's always been an ambition of mine to run the London Marathon."

Paul says after getting a place in the popular race, it didn't take long for him to decide to fundraise for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

He added: "I see first hand the absolute massive benefit they are, particularly when I'm at serious and fatal road traffic collisions in my day job. Their expertise and the speed they can get patients to major trauma units to give them the best chance of recovery is just phenomenal."

After an original target of £500, Paul's already raised more than £3,000 for the charity.

"The police family is a very close-knit family, you only have to look at recent events in Westminster where everybody came together. Supporters within the police, the extended police family, followers on twitter have been phenomenal as well, along with friends and family."
