Online Shopping Comes To Ilkley Independents

ShopAppy Ilkley

A new way of shopping has arrived in Ilkley, following a lively launch this morning.

If you were around The Grove you won't have failed to notice (or hear!) the commotion as ShopAppy celebrated the platform coming to the market town.

Passersby were plied, by giant emojis, with brownies, gingerbread men and bacon butties as they made their way to school, work or headed to the shops.

ShopAppy is a digital social-enterprise launched by Jackie Mulligan, that aims to bring convenience to shopping at the independent outlets on your local high street.

Having already launched in Saltaire, Otley, Guiseley and Shipley, Ilkley today launched with the biggest number of independent retailers on day one. 23 stores including greengrocers R.K. Asquith & Son, florists The Green Room, Love Brownies, and butchers J.B. Wilkinson and Sons have all signed up to the platform which allows shoppers to browse products and place orders online.

The retailers will then pick and pack the orders before the customer either comes to collect, or will transfer them to the local pick-up point.

And you'll be pleased to know that in Ilkley that pick-up point will also keep you refreshed, as it's the Black Hat pub on Church Street.

ShopAppy founder Jackie Mulligan said: “We want to celebrate Ilkley becoming our fifth town in the Leeds and Bradford area by giving commuters a taste of what their local, independent shops can offer them and encouraging them to do their shopping locally.”

Chantal Teal, owner and head baker of Love Brownies said: “When we heard about ShopAppy and saw how well it had done in other nearby areas such as Otley, we wanted to join immediately. Not all our customers can come into the shop on a daily basis – ShopAppy lets them still shop with us, but gives them the choice of picking up their shopping after work, when many shops have closed for the day."
