Firefighters tackle Ripon blaze

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has been tackling a fire at a takeaway outlet in Ripon. 

The service was called to North Street at 4.08pm on Monday afternoon, with four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform dealing with the blaze.

A number of roads were closed around the scene whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.  

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Fires crews were called to reports of a fire in a takeaway shop in Ripon.

"On crews' arrival they found the building to be well alight.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to fight the fire.

"The Aerial ladder platform also attended."

An appliance returned later in the evening following reports of more smoke.

It is understand Yorkshire Ambulance Service were called to treat one person with smoke inhalation.

The fire service were due to revisit the scene on Tuesday morning.

Luke Plunkett is an assistant manager at So! Bar & Eats, which is just around the corner from North Street.

He told Stray FM: "What I saw personally was they'd put the blaze out, and there was a lot of smoke. Speaking to someone across the road they told me it was the pizza shop and two flats above the pizza shop.

"Some of the locals posted pictures on social media, it was blatant to see the fire was raging out the front of the property, the whole front face of the property was ablaze with fire coming out through the windows as well.

"The road is closed and there's a number of engines there still on scene."
