More than 100 events have been organised as part of Knaresborough's feva Festival.

Music, comedy, street performances and an urban beach will all feature as part of the entertainment and visual arts festival which will take place over the next 10 days.

This year's celebration will also mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of Knaresborough's John Metcalf - AKA Blind Jack (above) - who defied his disability to become one of the country's greatest road builders.

Tonight's opening concert at the Frazer Theatre has been hastily put together after the headliner Emma Hayes withdrew at the last minute.

An array of local folk and rock artists will come together to put on a 'super gig'.

Tony Cerexhe, Chairman of feva

Tony Cerexhe , Chairman of feva, said: "We are very grateful to those who have agreed to turn out for the gig, because of the cancellation of the scheduled concert.

"The opening concert of the Festival, always held at the Frazer on the first Friday, is something special, and with local performers rallying around, we have been able to save the day."

The event is ticketless, but the audience will be invited to make a donation which will go towards the overheads of the Festival.

Doors open at 7.30 pm and there is a licensed bar.

The Knaresborough feva Festival runs from 11 to 20 August.
