A man from Otley has helped to introduce 16 public access defibrillators into the town.

Peter Jackson, manager of The Otley Tavern, has raised thousands of pounds to purchase and install the units.

Each defibrillator costs around £1,600.

There are now 20 units in total dotted around the town.

Places include outside the fire station and local doctor's surgery.

Peter says Otley is the only place of its size in the UK to have as many defibrillators.

He has received multiple donations from the members of the public, as well as Otley Lions and local businesses.

Peter is offering businesses the chance to add their logo onto the boxes if they choose to donate money for one.

He told Stray FM how they work: "If you come across somebody and it's a suspected heart attack, the first thing you do is dial 999.

"The ambulance service will then direct you to the nearest defibrillator to you, they will give you a pass key so you can open it up and the unit will then speak to you and tell you exactly what to do.

"Other people and organisations have started to get involved because of the success of the units.

"These are life-saving pieces of equipment."
