Businesses in Ripon are campaigning to allow emergency service workers to jump queues in food outlets.

North Yorkshire is being called upon to join the campaign.

It started after Gail Carpenter was behind a paramedic in a queue at McDonald's.

However, the service worker was called out to a job before she could get her lunch.

Mcdonald's

Liz Guest, owner of Big Bites in Ripon, has joined the campaign alongside Ripon McDonald's.

They want other food stores to join in: "We've had some police officers come in and thank us for doing it after seeing the Facebook post.

"It'd be nice if other stores, especially independents, could get on board so emergency services know where they can go and get fed quickly.

"I've put up posters all around the stations in Ripon, and I've been spreading the word.

"We just need to make people aware of it, that they do go off without breaks and have to go off without a second's notice.

"It should be done automatically, it's an easy thing we can do, and it's giving something back to them after everything they do for us."
