New social-enterprise has launched in Harrogate

A Harrogate-based business has launched today allowing locals to order from local farmers and food makers online - and collect just days later.

It's called Harrogate Food Assembly.

Customers can search and purchase their shopping up until Tuesday of every week.

They can then collect their shopping every Thursday between 5:30pm-7pm.

This allows for people to meet the producers of their foods too.

They could also get the chance to try samples, collect recipes or simply chat about cheese!

To become a member all you need to do is download the app for free or visit the website online. 

Founder, Emma Povey, tells us some producers you can expect: "We have the Secret Bakery, Ian Taylor with his free-range eggs, Whittakers Gin, and Gemma from the Cheeseboard in Harrogate.

"We have all the key categories.

"With a traditional farmers market, they're uncertain about what they're going to sell on the day but with this it's pre-ordered so there's no food waste, they can turn up knowing they've sold it all.

"For every £1 spent with the Food Assembly, 83p goes straight back to the local producers so it is truly about giving back to them."
