Construction firm Bowmer and Kirkland (B&K) is investing in woodland restoration around the Yorkshire Dales thanks to a new partnership with local charity Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

Young native trees will be planted across the region, helping to create new broadleaf woodlands that will grow to provide important wildlife habitats and places for people to enjoy, as well as helping to absorb carbon dioxide, mitigate flooding and bring a range of other benefits.

As a Considerate Constructors Scheme Partner, B&K continually strives for the highest standards in health and safety, as well as seeking to protect the environment and respect communities.

B&K Project Manager, Dave Shooter, said: “We are committed to sound management practices that minimise the potential negative effects of building activities on the environment.

"Through our partnership with YDMT we are helping to make a positive contribution to the world in which we live and work.

"We’ve already raised £1150 through the initiative, dedicating trees for our suppliers and partners.”

Leah Galloway, YDMT Fundraiser, said: “We’re really excited about our new partnership with Bowmer and Kirkland.

"They’ve already raised a fantastic amount of money to support our ongoing efforts to restore woodland cover in and around the Yorkshire Dales.

"As the least wooded National Park in the country, there is still much work to be done across the region, and we’d love to hear from any other organisations interested in supporting this important work.”

YDMT works with partners including Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Forestry Commission to fund, create and manage woodlands through The Dales Woodland Restoration Programme.
