A date has been set for a charity football tournament in memory of a Harrogate man who died whilst playing for Spa Athletic Reserves.

The Adam Tennant Memorial Trophy event will take place at Harrogate Town's ground on 9 June 2018.

It's hoped that it will take the form of a tournament featuring 26 six-a-side teams, a mixture of 'veterans' teams for the over-40s and teams of mixed ages.

Organisers are now looking for local businesses to donate prizes for a raffle and auction which will be held on the day, as well as potentially a band to provide evening entertainment and take requests in return for donations.

Adam was playing in a match in 2007 when he suffered a cardiac arrest during the first few minutes of the game and died at the age of just 41.

Event organiser Steve Kilroy said: "What I'd like to do is have a raffle and an auction to raise money, a raffle during the day and an auction on the evening.

"The two charities will be the British Heart Foundation and Cardiac Risk in the Young, so all the money will be going to good causes which link in to Adam's passing because he died after suffering a cardiac arrest."

Anyone who can help can get in touch with Steve by e-mailing skilroy@live.co.uk or the 'Adam Tennant Memorial Trophy' page on Facebook.
